Plumbing a New Dishwasher – Dishwasher Installation Procedure

Step 1: Preparing the dishwasher
Measure the space where the new dishwasher is going and check these measurements against the specs of the new dishwasher. Does it fit? If the answer is yes, let’s go!
If you are removing an old dishwasher: close all the valves and turn off the circuit breaker before disconnecting the dishwasher.
Check the existing holes in your cabinetry are suitable for supply lines, the wiring, and the drain pipe (if a dishwasher has not been installed here in the past you will need to drill these).

Step 2: Connect the drain hose
Run the drain hose to the sink drain disposal and secure it with a clamp.
You may have to replace the drain hose under the sink with a dishwasher branch tailpiece and install it above the trap under the sink.

Step 3: Connect the Water & Power Supply
To connect the dishwasher supply line to the hot water pipe beneath the sink, turn off the water and install a dual outlet shut-off valve. One outlet supplies hot water to the sink faucet, while the other connects to the dishwasher supply line.
Using a right-angle elbow, connect one end of the supply line to the shut-off valve and the other end to the water inlet on the underside of the dishwasher.
To avoid leaks, cover the male threads with PTFE or plumber’s tape. Hand tightening is required, followed by a quarter turn with a wrench.

Step 4: Connect Electrical Supply
BEFORE WORKING WITH THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY, ALWAYS FLIP THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. Connect the cable to the proper wires in the dishwasher’s electrical box. Replace the box cover and connect the earth wire.

Step 5: The Final Test
Turn on the water and look for leaks.
Turn on the dishwasher and run it through a complete test cycle.
Slide the appliance into the cabinet if everything works properly. Make careful you don’t pinch any pipes on your way in.

Step 6: Finish and Clean Up
Any trim should be replaced.
Remove all packaging from the floor and clean it up.
